CANAIMA – ENEPA COMMUNITY IN UPPER CUCHIVERO RIVEREarly in the morning we drive to the airport where we take our small Cessna plane and fly with all our luggage and gifts to the Eñepa. The flight takes about an hour from Canaima to the west where we land at the upper Cuchivero River in the Maigualida Mountains.
The Indians living there hear the plane from afar and all come running to the airstrip, including the children. They marvel at our giant bird with which we have landed from the sky!
From here, the Eñepa accompany us to the main house of their village where we are allowed to pitch our tents or stretch out our hammocks.
We join the Eñepa in a welcome ceremony in the main house and explore the surrounding area in the afternoon.
Here two tribes, the Eñepa and the Hotis, live together peacefully. We have the opportunity to look at their handicrafts and get to know the Indians.
We should refrain from taking any photos on this day!
Overnight stay in tents and hammocks (you can choose which option you personally prefer) in the Indian village.

ENEPA COMMUNITY IN UPPER CUCHIVERO RIVERToday we take a trip to the main house of the Eñepa and see how some of the indigenous visitors to the village live there.
This house is available to visitors who come to the village from the surrounding area to visit their family. The Eñepa explain to us the various fruits they have collected from the jungle. We can also taste these different fruits and the Eñepa explain to us other items used in this huge communal house.
In the afternoon we return to our Eñepa village where the abandoned former mission station is located. We still have the opportunity to talk to the Indians living here and ask questions about the influences of the mission that once existed here.
Meals included: breakfast, lunch, dinnerAccommodation included: in tents or in hammocks in our camp in the Eñepa villageDay 5. March 14, 2027 (Sunday). ENEPA COMMUNITY IN UPPER CUCHIVERO RIVERToday we hike with the Eñepa to their fields and take a look at what they grow there. The Eñepa explain to us how the cassava bread is made, which we can taste there when they are making it. We will get into acquaintance with palmito and other types of palms they grow, and with the medicinal plants they find in the jungle.
In the afternoon, we are invited to the home of an Eñepa family who show us how they live together in their family house. They explain their utensils and daily life to us. We visit, we discover new and interesting things that the Indians make themselves, such as the highly toxic
curare poison.
The Enepa show us how they coat the arrowheads for their blowguns with the black poison.
Then we continue to a little waterfall with nice views over the Kayama river.

Here we board our large dugout canoes and continue up the Carao River. We have great views of the Auyan Tepui Table Mountain.
After a one-hour drive, we arrive at the Mayupa rapids and continue to the mouth of the Churun River. From here we set off on an arduous upstream journey through a very difficult river basin. Many bends and the stony riverbed make the ride difficult. We even have to get out a few times to go around the rapids! Finally, the Salto Angel appears behind the edge of the gigantic table mountain.
We can watch the water plunging into the depths from a great height! After a few river turns, we arrive at our overnight stop. After lunch, we set off on a hike through the jungle to the Angel waterfall viewpoint. Here we have a great view of the large waterfall – and the smaller waterfall with a pool below, where we can take a refreshing dip. However, this is only possible if there is not too much water, otherwise it is too dangerous due to the raging water.
Late in the afternoon, we start the return hike to spend the night in our camp.
