ANADYR. EMBARKATIONIn the afternoon, a transfer will be organized for you to the port where you will embark on the liner. After settling into your cabins, a welcome cocktail and an introduction to the team await you.
Today, you will already have a chance to encounter the wild nature of Chukotka: beluga whales—snow-white Arctic cetaceans—are often seen in the Anadyr Gulf, swimming remarkably close to the ship.
SH Minerva will depart from the port of Anadyr and set a course northward. The sea crossing will take about 17 hours—the perfect time to appreciate the amenities of your luxury liner: dine in a panoramic restaurant, relax in a sauna with sea views, or unwind at the open-air grill bar.
Accommodation: Cabin on board SH MinervaMeals included: DinnerDay 2. ITYGRAN ISLAND, WHALE BONE ALLEY. SENYAVIN STRAIT — IN SEARCH OF WHALESOn this day, you will touch the heritage of Eskimo culture. A walk to Whale Bone Alley on Itygran Island awaits—an ancient sanctuary made of bowhead whale bones planted in the ground. Researchers believe it was created no later than the 16th century. Today, the alley is recognized as a cultural heritage site of the peoples of Russia.
Then, on Zodiac boats, you will head to the Senyavin Strait—one of the best places in the Russian Far East for whale watching. Encounters here are almost guaranteed: humpback and gray whales frequently come to these waters to feed. These marine giants show no fear of humans and approach the boats closely. Imagine—majestic fins rising from the water, and two enormous tails soaring synchronously just meters away from you.
On the shores of the strait, you can see walrus haul-outs, and on the cliffs—lively colonies of tufted puffins and horned puffins. Not far from the mouth of the Pestsovaya River lies an abandoned reindeer herders' camp—a reminder of the life that once thrived in these harsh lands.
Accommodation: Cabin on board SH MinervaMeals included: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerDay 3. CAPE DEZHNEV AND THE VILLAGE OF UELENToday, we reach the point where Eurasia ends and the great unknown begins. We will find ourselves at Cape Dezhnev—the easternmost tip of Russian lands and the entire continent. Here, by the austere lighthouse-monument to the legendary explorer, you will be met by the wind blowing straight from the Bering Strait. On a clear day, your gaze can travel 86 kilometers and see the ghostly outlines of Alaska—the shore of another part of the world, North America.
Next, your journey leads to Uelen—a legendary village frozen on the very edge of the earth. This is not just the easternmost settlement in Eurasia; it is the living heart of Chukchi culture. We will visit the oldest bone-carving workshop, where masterpieces are born from walrus tusks under the hands of artisans. At the local museum, we will touch ancient artifacts and trace the entire history of this unique art form, from archaeological finds to exquisite contemporary works.
The culmination of the day will be an encounter with the soul of this people. At the Uelen House of Culture, centuries-old traditions will come alive for you: local residents will perform Chukchi dances and sing songs in which you can hear the voices of the wind, the sea, and the boundless tundra.
Accommodation: Cabin on board SH MinervaMeals included: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerDay 4. KOLYUCHIN ISLANDOur next day begins with a landing on mysterious Kolyuchin Island—a giant stone floe lost in the ocean. Its Eskimo name perfectly describes its almost perfectly round contours rising among icy waters. Once, life buzzed at a polar weather station here, but today it is a kingdom of silence and oblivion: only ghostly structures remain from human presence, slowly yielding to the elements.
But oblivion is deceptive. Prepare for a whirlwind of sounds and colors at one of the Arctic's most impressive bird colonies! The island's cliffs literally "boil" with life: they are covered in a continuous carpet of nesting guillemots, comical puffins, and wheeling gulls. Their cacophony creates a deafening symphony of wild nature.
The true masters of this icy stage are the polar bears. It is here, on Kolyuchin, that you have a unique chance to witness a surreal spectacle: majestic predators, like ghosts of the past, roam leisurely among the ruins of the abandoned station. They peer into empty windows and settle down to rest in houses where people once lived—a mesmerizing sight, a true allegory of nature's eternal triumph over the human world.
Accommodation: Cabin on board SH MinervaMeals included: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerDays 5 - 8. WRANGEL ISLAND AND HERALD ISLANDFor the next four days, you will explore the "Wrangel Island" Nature Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The reserve consists of two islands—Wrangel and Herald.
In good weather, the vessel will circumnavigate Wrangel Island, and you will make several landings in different parts: you will see polar bears, walruses, muskoxen, and rare Arctic birds. In the coastal waters, you may encounter belugas, gray, and bowhead whales.
The vibrancy of the tundra in the high Arctic latitudes astounds even seasoned travelers: about 400 plant species have been recorded here—more than on any other Arctic island. About 40 species of animals, birds, and insects are endemic and found nowhere else in the world.
On one of the days, your liner will approach the remote Herald Island, located 40 kilometers from Wrangel. Its rocky shores are unsuitable for landing—so you will explore the island on Zodiac boats. You will see walrus haul-outs, impressive bird colonies, and if you're lucky—capture stunning photographs of polar bears against the backdrop of dark, jagged cliffs.
Accommodation: Cabin on board SH MinervaMeals included: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerDay 9. KOLYUCHIN BAYThe final chord of our journey in the Chukchi Sea will be a Zodiac expedition along the majestic cliffs of Kolyuchin Bay. This is not just a ride but a true safari through a kingdom of ice and stone, where every turn reveals a new scene of harsh Arctic life.
Shadows of leviathan whales may unexpectedly appear on the surface of the mirror-like water, and on the pebbly beaches, you will see walrus haul-outs, filling the bay with their mighty roar. The air here literally hums with the wings of thousands of Arctic birds nesting on the impregnable cliffs. This is the last poignant dialogue with the wild nature of the Polar region, which will forever remain in your memory as a vivid image of the pristine Arctic.
Accommodation: Cabin on board SH MinervaMeals included: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerDay 10. THE VILLAGE OF LAVRENTIYAOur journey through Chukotka will conclude in its true cultural heart—the village of Lavrentiya, nestled on the shores of the legendary Bering Strait. This is not just a point on the map but a living hearth of traditions, where the life of the indigenous peoples of the North still pulsates today. It is here that the famous "Beringia" regatta starts—a thrilling spectacle where daredevils from across the country compete on fragile yet swift leather kayaks.
During a leisurely walk through the settlement, we will touch its rich history at local monuments and feel the rhythm of authentic northern life. In the local museum, resembling a portal to the past, we will find unique artifacts revealing the sacred secrets and spiritual world of the Chukchi and Eskimos.
And then, the warmest farewell to Chukotka awaits. Local residents will welcome you with the hospitality cherished for centuries in these harsh lands: mesmerizing rhythms of national dances will sound, you will be treated to aromatic tea from local herbs, brewed over an open fire according to ancient custom. And as a memento of this land, we can purchase not just souvenirs but true works of art—authentic items made of leather and fur, crafted by the hands of Chukchi masters.
Accommodation: Cabin on board SH MinervaMeals included: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerDay 11. PENKEGNEY AND GILMYMYL BAYS. SENYAVIN HOT SPRINGSToday, you can split into groups and choose an activity to your liking.
The first group will embark on a six-hour trek from Penkegney Bay to Gylmymyl Bay—through the territory of the "Beringia" National Park. En route, you will encounter captivating landscapes: winding fjords, whimsical hills, and tundra blooming with a multitude of colors.
At the end of the trek, you can relax in the Senyavin Hot Springs—the largest thermal complex in the Providensky District. Over 150 springs gush from the ground here, with water temperatures reaching 80°C (176°F), rich in mineral salts and radon.
If you prefer not to undertake the long trek, you can stay on the vessel and cover this route by sea. A "whale safari" on Zodiac boats awaits you, followed by a soak in the hot springs.
Accommodation: Cabin on board SH MinervaMeals included: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerDay 12. MEECHKYN SPIT — WALRUS HAUL-OUTSIn the morning, the liner will approach the shores of the Meechkyn Spit—a narrow but astonishingly long island. Its length is 60 kilometers, while its width is only about 100 meters. The spit is recognized as a zoological natural monument: walruses and seals inhabit here, colonies of rare birds nest, and whales can be encountered in the coastal waters.
On expedition boats, you will head to a huge walrus haul-out and observe the giants from a close yet safe distance. The island is also home to the rarest bird species—the spoon-billed sandpiper. And if you're lucky—you might spot brown bears on the shore, which often swim here from the mainland.
Accommodation: Cabin on board SH MinervaMeals included: Breakfast, Lunch, DinnerDay 13. RETURN TO ANADYREarly in the morning, your vessel will return to the port of Anadyr. You will bid farewell to the crew and disembark, where a transfer will be waiting to take you either to a hotel or to the airport, depending on your flight departure time.
Upon returning home, a pleasant surprise awaits you—a film with memories of your journey along the wild shores of Chukotka.
