Founded in 631 BCE, it became a pinnacle of classical culture and a major intellectual hub, renowned as the birthplace of the philosopher Aristippus, who founded the Cyrenaic school of hedonism. Today, its monumental ruins—including the colossal Temple of Zeus, a stunning amphitheater, and the sanctuary of Apollo—offer an unparalleled glimpse into the fusion of Greek and Roman civilizations in Libya.
In 1982 Cyrene was officially listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has also been on the List of World Heritage in Danger since 2016.

Transfer to Apollonia, ancient port of Cyrene (25 km, 40 minutes driving). Visit Roman theatre and Byzantine ruins.
Apollonia served as the ancient port city of Cyrene, acting as its vital maritime gateway to the Mediterranean world for over a millennium.
