In this ethnic expedition we immerse ourselves into the atmosphere of Ateker cluster tribal festival, where 4 main tribes from different countries get together: Karamojong of Uganda, Toposa of Kenya, Nyangatom of Ethiopia and Toposa of South Sudan.

We will travel to the remotest part of North East Uganda, from enchanting Sipi Falls to the wilderness of Kidepo National

park on the border with South Sudan, and discover the villages of the most authentic tribes: Karamojong, Jiye and Ik.

– 3 330 USD subject to 11 – 12 participants, or

Everything is included (also full board meals and private charter flight), except for:

TRAVEL PROGRAM: tour to Uganda

Day 1. August 30, 2024 (Friday). KAMPALA

Arrive at Entebbe international airport, our team of English speaking guide and drivers will meet and welcome you to the pearl of Africa — Uganda. You will drive for 1 hour to Kampala city where you are going to spend your overnight in Hilton hotel. The rest of the day is to explore, relax and get briefed for the next programs.

Day 2. August 31, 2024 (Saturday). KAMPALA — JINJA — THE SOURCE OF RIVER NILE — MBALE

After tasty breakfast, you will drive for 2-3 hours to explore the source of the mighty river Nile in Jinja. After lunch in Jinja, drive for another 4 hours to Mbale. Along your way, you will be able to enjoy the beautiful green nature of Uganda as well as the view of mt. Elgon. Dinner and Overnight in Mbale court view hotel.

Day 3. September 1, 2024 (Sunday). MBALE — SIPI WATERFALLS — MOROTO — KARAMOJONG VILLAGES

After breakfast, drive for 1,5 hours to visit Sipi Falls, one of Ugandas greatest waterfalls. After trekking tо 3 of the most beautiful waterfalls, another 4 hours drive to Moroto. Arrive and check-in at Africana resort. You will then drive to the Karamojong villages to experience the lifestyle of Karamojong people. Evening activities photography and traditional dances. You will visit one of the biggest village of Matheniko in order to witness the evening daily activities of the Karamojong cattle keepers.

Back in the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

Day 4. September 2, 2024 (Monday). MOROTO — BOKORA VILLAGE AND CATTLE CAMP OF KARAMOJONG TRIBE — JIYE TRIBE VILLAGE — KAABONG

After nice breakfast, drive for 1 hour to the Bokora — Karamojong cattle camp to experience the morning activities of milking, training of the bulls to do ploughing, initiation ceremonies, traditional wedding if lucky to find one, and other activities. Thereafter, you will continue your journey to Kaabong. On your way, you will drive via the largest village in East Africa of the Jiye people in Kotido district before proceeding to Kaabong. On your way will be experiencing the harvesting of crops by Karamojong people since this will be the time of new harvest first month, enjoy the beautiful scenery of Karamoja region. Dinner and overnight in Kaabong resort hotel.

Total driving time today is 5-6 hours.

DAY 5. September 3, 2024 (Tuesday). KAABONG — IK PEOPLE — SAFARI IN KIDEPO NATIONAL PARK — PLACE OF TRADITIONAL FESTIVAL OF ATEKER TRIBES

After breakfast, drive for 2 hours up to the flat plains of mount Morungole to visit the Ik people. The Ik people is a minority tribe living on the flat plains of mt. Morungole. They are believed to be the indigenous inhabitants of Kidepo valley national park. Their livelihoods depend on bee keeping, hunting, fruit gathering and now currently embark on practicing substance farming, growing mainly maize, sorghum and beans. After the visit, drive for 3 hours to Kidepo national park. Evening safari and also visit the cultural festival site to have an overview of the great traditional festival of Ateker cluster tribes.

DAY 6. September 4, 2024 (Wednesday). SAFARI IN KIDEPO NP — TRADITIONAL FESTIVAL OF ATEKER CLUSTER TRIBES

In the morning after your tasty breakfast, you will have a morning safari.

Drive 40 minutes to the cultural event celebration to meet the 4 Ateker (Karamojong) cluster tribes — Toposa from South Sudan, Turkana from Kenya, Nuangatom from Ethiopia and Karamojong from Uganda — where each of them will be demonstrating their traditions, including traditional dances, and displaying of the different traditional dishes. This experience will be the most interesting one since you will have enough time seeing, touching, and learning the historical moments of the Ateker tribe's culture. It will be of great advantage to meet the 4 tribes in one place especially for those that may not be able to travel to the 4 countries to discover them. Campfire, dinner and overnight in Savannah safari lodge.

DAY 7. September 5, 2024 (Thursday). OPOTIPOT VILLAGE — TRADITIONAL FESTIVAL OF ATEKER CLUSTER TRIBES

After good breakfast, 40 minutes drive to Opotipot village at the border with South Sudan.

And thereafter drive back to the cultural festival ground at the time the day activities start. You will spend your time witnessing the amazing traditional dances, demonstrations of different traditional cuisines, initiation ceremonies, traditional prayers by elders and many more activities. There will be a special table for the team at the front for easy photography and video shooting.

Dinner and overnight in Savanna safari lodge.

DAY 8. September 6, 2024 (Friday). TRADITIONAL FESTIVAL OF ATEKER CLUSTER TRIBES

You will spend your 3rd day experiencing the historical moments of the 5 Ateker tribes. This day will be the day to meet and photograph with different tribes of the Ateker cluster to get to know them by their respective traditions and of course to be able to know and identify them accordingly. You will meet the Nyangatoum of Ethiopia, Turkana of Kenya, Toposa of South Sudan, Karamajong and Teso of Uganda. Apoka safari lodge will be easier to connect with your charter flight to Entebbe airport.

This day you can choose to change hotel for accommodation to Apoka safari lodge or remain in Savanah safari lodge.

Evening campfire and farewell party for concluding and discussing the highlights of our expedition.

DAY 9. September 7, 2024 (Saturday). SAFARI IN KIDEPO NO — GULU — ENTEBBE — RETURN FLIGHT

After breakfast, you'll have a morning safari drive for 40 minutes and after take your flight to Entebbe airport where you will check in for your flights back home.
